New Nodule Terrified

Hello. I have been going through the yearly cancer screenings. My initial screening did not have any nodules. My second screening there is one new small nodule. My doctor is saying we need to wait a year and scan again. Everything I have read indicates a new nodule found during screening is cancer. I am terrified and don’t know how I can deal with the unknown for a year. I can’t sleep and am having trouble doing anything and this is all I think about. Please offer some guidance and thoughts. Thank you.

  • Hi John57, I can understand how concerned you must be, but lung nodules are not always cancer! My dad has lung nodules, which are completely harmless and he has been living with them for years. There are people here in the group who are in a similar situation to yourself and are having lung nodules monitored. I know watching and waiting is very hard, but you have to put your trust into the doctors.

  • Thank you so much for responding. I can’t stop thinking about it. I just want to be able to sleep.

  • Hi John, I understand wat your going thro, iv had lung cancer twice 1lobe took away 2nd time a wedge out of another lobe, I have a nodule myself it hasn't grew any in 6 months , but still.worry but Wink chellesimo says nodules aren't always cancerous but the good thing is that it's getting observed , but stay strong Wink

  • Hi Bobbyjay. How big were your nodules when they were found? How long did they watch and wait? How do you deal with the waiting and not knowing?

  • It's 6mm .had my operation last August fir wedge resection  it was in first ct scan 3month later.scanned again February and no change .I try and stay positive as they say it would be very early stages if it was to grow and caught early .so could be treated .I have up.and down days, ser I didn't need therapies after both times so it sort of felt like iv no had cancer.

  • Did u have any treatment with your cancer any therapies? How big are your nodules?

  • This was my second annual scan. Last year nothing was there. In November they found a micronodule smaller than 3mm. They say at this size it is watch and wait to see if it grows. They said scan in another 12 months but I just want to know is it or isn’t it…….

  • I was like that at the beginning when they mentioned nodule until they said it hadn't grown any iv spoke o few people tgat haven't had cancer and they have nodules. Just try stay positive

  • Thank you I am trying

  • Hello.  I have had Stage 3 colon cancer, it will be 3 years in a few weeks.  I've been having my on going cancer monitoring, 6 months ago a nodule was seen on my lung.  At the last scan, a month ago, it had grown from tiny to 1 cm.  I went for a PET CT scan and it is cancer, metasised from my colon.  I saw the colorectal surgeon last Friday and he was pretty chilled about it all.  I start SABR radiotherapy in January and understand that will get rid of it.  I know its different for everyone but its so important to stay positive, not to dwell - you cant do anything about it - look after yourself, go for walks, be outside, enjoy nice times and try to do other stuff that is not focussing on cancer.
