My husband was diagnosed yesterday with NSCLC Stage 3. We're gutted and have to have a Pet scan to see if its only in the lung and adjoining lymph cells. How  do I best support him

  • Hello

I’m so sorry to hear of your husband’s diagnosis which I know from personal experience is devastating.  I was diagnosed in September with the same lung cancer but it was not staged- I had a tumour on my right lung - and have had all the tests and scans etc which I found very daunting at the time.  I am now 4 weeks in from my operation which has been very successful and I am cancer free and just awaiting chemotherapy as an insurance policy.

All I can say is just be there for your husband as mine has been for me.  Make sure that he remains as positive as possible which is really a big help in coping and try and keep a smile on your face even when you don’t feel like it.  Personally I never looked anything up on google etc - I just went by what the doctors told me.

I send you every good wish and don’t forget that this forum is always here for you both - not just for your husband - and that there is plenty of support out

I have had fantastic care and I’m sure that you will too.

    Take care and best wishes.

  • Thank you for your comments makes me feel not so bad about it all..they say I’ve still got to have the operation to remove the lump !! From my left upper lung …when they  have it out they will get it sorted and will make a decision on what happens next ..stay strong x

  • Thank you for replying. Unfortunately Dessys tumor is inoperable as are the lymph nodes. We've only been married 14 months so it's hard to imagine life if the treatment might not work. Hopefully the PET scan will show M0 but if it's M1 it'll be hard to be optimistic. I won't ever say that to him and ill keep being upbeat infront of him. Inside I'm breaking

  • Im moving to the lung cancer forum. The cancer hasnt spread beyond the chest area and hes due to start radiotherapy for 6 weeks with chemo simultaneously once a week
