I had my lung cancer operation on 30th October at Nottingham City Hospital. The care I received was amazing and I am truly grateful. I was very lucky that I had Non Small Cell cancer and it has now been eradicated. I am awaiting my Oncology appointment to see when I start my chemotherapy treatment - hopefully this will be very soon. Although scary I feel that I am doing very well - partially helped by a positive attitude - not easy at times but for me a bit of humour and a smile are essential. I am looking forward to chats where we can discuss our fears and thoughts and help each other along.
Hi FoxyP welcome to the group, but sorry you find yourself here.
Glad to see you have recovered well from your operation. You are right, it is a very scary situation to be in. Keep staying positive, and getting stronger everyday. Lots of people in the group have had chemo, so they will be able to share their experience with you.
I have just read your bio on your profile page. How are you feeling now after your operation? Is your breathing back to normal, and are you able to do your normal day activities?
When I had my operation, they were able to go via a tube down my throat, because the tumour was in the bronchial airway, so I had no open wounds. My breathing was better almost instantly, but unfortunately for me, 2 weeks later part of the tumour remaining in the lung, dropped through into the airway again, and I was back to the beginning again! I then had radiotherapy which thankfully sorted the rest of that tumour, and although I still have my right upper lobe remaining, it is dead, it doesn’t work anymore, it’s as if it wasn’t there. My bronchial airway is also bent from the tumour being there, so air bounces around and makes a wheezing noise. Breathing is good, but I do tire more easily than I used too.
Hello lovely to hear from you. What an experience you have had! I had a 6cm tumour and had to have open surgery but also had cryo which is where they freeze the area to save on nerve pain. All went well and my X-ray shows that I am cancer free but need chemo as a safeguard as a few cells were found in a lymph node- I’m awaiting that appointment and hopefully it may be tablets but whatever!
I’m doing well and my breathing isn’t bad at all except when I get tired etc- and I do get tired after doing something! Im just doing pots, tidying and a bit of pottering at the mo but it’s only 4 weeks today since my op and as my husband keeps reminding me it’s early days!
The one thing I am experiencing is tightness in my chest which feels quite uncomfortable - I know this is quite normal and I don’t want to increase my medication so I’m doing breathing exercises etc and I will ask for some more exercises to help. All in all I am very lucky and have not experienced what you have!
Let’s just keep smiling and looking forward to next Spring when we’ll be A1. Best wishes to you.
