Hello Everyone,
My name is Bob and I come here to you via the Macmillan Online Community Head & Neck Forum.
In May 2021 I was diagnosed with throat cancer at the base of my tongue and was processed through 30 sessions of, successful but painful, radiotherapy. I was declared free of cancer in November 2021 and I am still recovering from the radiotherapy but not yet eating properly.
In March 2023, I started having chest pains but let it go for a while (I'm a man) but I had to got to my GP in July. I had two chest x-rays and an ECG; which were all accepted as fine. I think the GP put it down to being muscular pain. However, in mid-October, I had to return tp my GP as the pains was worsening. I did see a locum doctor on this visit and, after a good examination, he suggested that a CT Scan was necessary and this took place on Thurdsday 2nd November and my GP surgery called me on the 6th to come and see the senior GP the next day.
I was informed that the CT Scan results indicated the presence of cancer in my chest area. He did mention the Pleura, the Pericardium and the chest wall. I went to see a registrar yesterday and he showed me the CT results and explained to me that the cancer was in several areas of both lungs and that there is a quite enlarged lymph node close to my heart.
It was also explained that the cancer was probably incurable and that any treatment would only be for comfort and quality of life.
The next step is for a Bronchosopy (EBUS) to determine if this is metastatic from the original throat. cancer.
Any insights would be appreciated.
Thank You,
Bob

So first off by me replying you post will go back to the top of the lung cancer forum and I hope it's seen by people on a similar cancer journey and you can get some insights as you have requested. I can't give you any answers as my cancer is a different cancer.

Thanks Brian, I have already joined and posted there. I was referred by someone on the Head & Neck Forum. It is a deep dark thing that we are all dealing with and any and all assistance is very helpful to me.

Hello Bob
Many thanks for the reply - It's my fault that one, I am the new kid on the block as far as "Community Champions" go I am only in my 3rd month and should have checked the forums you were in before I suggested you join that one - sorry about that, as you were already a member.
Yes I know just where you are with it being "deep and dark". You cut your finger, you see the cut, put a plaster on the cut and next week it's healed and gone - you can't see cancer and have to put your trust in the medical professionals.
It's all to do with attitude and mental strength too - when I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer I saw my PSA score of 182 and that's normally incurable but treatable and I thought that was me - I am very lucky that about 3 weeks later I found it hadn't gone "walkabout" and I am on a "curative" treatment - but those first 3 weeks.......... I do feel for you.
I wish you the strength to get through your journey and do hope you get some answers. Stay strong.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Bob, I,m very much like yourself, base of tongue cancer 2019,all clear January 2020,had 2 chemo and 35 sessions of radiotherapy. Got most of my taste back, but still have to have water with sandwiches etc. Then this year cancer came back in right lung, biopsy confirmed it was secondary from the tongue cancer.at this point I was switched from lung department to once again head and neck .prognosis was stage 4,so not curable but treatable. Have started treatment, 4th chemo tomorrow, then two left to go,in the meantime just had CT scan to see where we are with tumors, reduction I'm hoping chemo one afternoon every three weeks, in-between left to my own devices,no nausea, still eating but energy levels zero.if you want any advice please contact me and I'll try and help good luck Martin
Hello Totolemar
Cracking post, thank you. I just had to respond having read your signature - that's one hell of a statement but how true it is. That is possibly the best signature I have ever read!
Best wishes for your journey - you look like you are in control of the situation.
Kind Regards - Brian.
