i have just finished my treatment for a small patch of cancer on my right lung so i am waiting for a review scan .However yesterday i had a ct scan for a totally different reason and discussions with the docs he reaveled that the patch had grown slightly i am a bit disappointed with that so what want to know is what will be my cancer doctors response .will he try something different or just repeat the previous treatment again . another worry !!
Hi deaco I’m a little confused. Was it the oncologist that told you that the patch has grown ?
no chell i had to go to A&E and they kept me in and during the stay they gave me a CT scan and one of ward docs reported that to me
Have they booked you a follow up appointment with your oncologist? I am disappointed that the doctor in A&E has given you this information. He isn’t an oncologist so not trained in this field. He could advise you on what he believes he has seen, but without a full CT report and an overview with the oncologist, he is just telling you what you thinks. This happened to me at the very start of my lung diagnoses. A respiratory doctor looked at my CT and told me I had 6 months to live. It wasn’t until I saw my oncologist a few days later did I learn that was not true. 9 years later I’m still here.
Now that this doctor has told you this, this is all that is going to be in your head. If you don’t have a follow up appointment already booked with your oncologist then you need to call your lung nurse today to arrange this for you. Your scan needs looking at properly by your oncologist, as only they can tell you what is truly going on. You have mentioned that you have just finished treatment. I have seen posts from many people over the years that have said that their tumour seemed to grow before it shrunk with treatment. Of course I don’t know if this is the case with you, but could be a possibility.
Please call the lung nurse this morning. I really do hope she can reassure you over this. Let us know how you get on.
morning chelle i have researched it and they can grow after treatment it needs time to allow the treated material to drop away it takes about 7 months for that to occur fully .that is why they wait so long before they rescan you (approx 6-8 weeks) so i am not worried about A&E docs comment at all .It is treible that they told you that !` about your diagnosis you must have been devastated .thanks very much for your concern i am very happy with my team and am certain they will succeed (hopefully)
Morning deaco that is good to hear, you sound much more positive today than your post from yesterday.
Thats why I got upset for you reading your post. Doctors who are not trained in treating cancer try to give their opinion which is often not the case at all. I am so glad you have a good oncologist team. It is hard to over think when you get outside input from other medical professionals, but I have learnt to only listen to my oncologist as this is the one I trust.
I have looked at your other posts, and can see you have had radiotherapy, and with your comments about the 7 months, I can fully agree. I had radiotherapy, and after 3 months my cancer had shrunk by 50%, by the end of the first year it was unmeasurable. I am on hormone treatment as well so not sure how much is due to radiotherapy alone.
