Hi everyone hope you’re all well. My name is Hajirah and I’m 31 years old. My mum was recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer (Adenocarcinoma). My mum is currently receiving tablet form treatment to help stop the spread of the cancer and to reduce the tumours in her body. If I’m being really honest, I’m struggling a lot to cope with everything, I was raised by a single mother my whole life, my mum for me is my world and imagining and preparing myself for a life without her is breaking me. Everyone around me keeps telling me to stay positive and hopefully the treatment will work but her prognosis is 2/3 years with treatment so I find it really difficult to stay positive because I keep thinking of the worst.

  • Hi Hajirah, I’m sorry you find yourself here. I just wanted to reach out and let you know that you’re not alone. My mum was diagnosed with lung cancer earlier this year. My dad passed away in 2021. Like you I’m struggling to imagine a life without my mum. She’s my everything. For her sake I’m trying to be strong and positive but inside I’m falling apart. Happy to chat if you feel you need someone to talk to who understands.
    Wishing your mum well.

  • Hi Reb, I’m so sorry to hear about your dad Disappointedthank you for your kind words. How is your mum doing? Has she started treatment? Sending you lots of love, I’m also here for you if you want to talk about things. It’s a difficult time for both of us unfortunately. Thinking of you. <3

  • Thank you Pray tone2 Yes my mum has started chemotherapy & immunotherapy. She’s ok, but quite lethargic.
Has your mum been given a treatment plan yet? x

  • Try not to get too caught up in the numbers.  The number of treatments available for lung cancer has exploded over the last decade and continues to grow.

There are people with Stage 4 lung cancer on other forums who are 10 years out from diagnosis and they're receiving treatments which didn't even exist when they were first diagnosed.
