Hello all

Yesterday I was diagnosed with lung cancer. It showed in a CT Scan. I don’t think it’s in its early stages because there are two lesions  in the right lung and Ibhave been complaining for two years of cough with GP.

So Im devastated, scared. Im 56 , active, was a smoker in my 20s and my mum died of lung cancer and bowel cancer not even two years ago at her 80s.

Now Im waiting for the bronchoscopy next week and the PET. after that they will be able to tell me where I am standing.

Thank you for listening

  • Hello Fraele

I’m sorry you find yourself facing this shock diagnosis. I remember feeling the same when told I probably had it. However the Thoracic and surgical teams are excellent and get things moving quickly. Once you’ve had the bronchoscopy and Pet scan you’ll be in a better position to know what stage yours is at and how it’ll be treated. The specialist lung cancer nurses are an excellent support and you should be given a card with their phone number for any questions you may have and support you need. Members on here are also an excellent support for you too. Do you have friends and/or family who can go with you for appointments?
please let us know how you get on and if you have any questions that more experienced members than me can help you with.
    Hugs

    Denise

  • Dear Denise

Thank you very much for all your words and support. It’s really shocking and nerve racking situation. A lot of negative thoughts as well. Yes, I have friends here in UK. Not family, but my brother can come anytime.

Thank you for your advice. Denise, do you remember how many days took to get the results form PET and Bronchoscopy ?

    Thanks again

  • Hi Fraele

it’s really frightening at this stage but try not to convince yourself of the worst. My ct scan showed one largish  nodule in top right lobe and several suspicious lesions in the left. Pet scan eventually ruled out all the the large one. So easier to deal with.

Good luck and keep your hopes up.

  • Sorry.. typo.. that should have said ruled out all but the large one.

  • You’re more than welcome Fraele. I think it took a couple of weeks for results. As I mentioned the specialist lung cancer nurses for chasing results etc. do please let me know how you get on

  • Hello Baytree123

I really thank you for your words. It’s really great to hear all these stories.

    Thanks again

  • Thank you very much Denise for your concern and information.

    I will keep you posted

  • Hi Fraele ,I remember how scary it was for me being told i had lung cancer ,I retreated into my shell for awhile ,but once i knew what i was up against i got myself together and listened to a lot of members on here and the surgeon and nursing staff ,last year i had a lobectomy ,removing the middle lobe of my lung ,and as i now know virtually removing every part of the lung that was cancerous ,Once you have the tests you will know what you are up against ,but you will always have someone to talk to ,people on here ,you will be given a lung nurse who you can call as well ,please tell us how you get on ,take care

  • Dear Christie

Thank you very much for sharing with me your story. I understand what you are saying. The uncertainty is the worst.

Thank you , and Im very happy to see they have removed all cancer from your lungs. Good luck Fingers crossed

  • Dear Deni123

I finally received the diagnosis Stage 4 cancer NSCL , there is a lymph node that appears with cancer, and the left lung. the doctor does not recommend surgery and think is treatable but not curable. My mental stage is that I can’t believe and can’t stop thinking and blaming the GPs over this ordeal complaining  about cough and back pain for over 2 years. I can’t get that out of my head.

Im waiting to see what type of treatment I will get and need to wait for 2 more weeks to get the results. I think I am numb. Trying to work out how to deal with this, kind of preparing for treatment, changed my diet, trying to feel positive, but I just feel very sad for how my life and dreams changed and scared of causing such a pain to my family.

    thank you for reading,

is there a way to reply to all those who have replied to my message? I would like to be kind and respond to others as well

    Thank you
