A month ago I had an open surgery lobectomy for primary lung cancer. Discharged after 14 days in hospital because of complications. I am struggling at home with my levels of sleep and pain relief. I am finding it hard to remain positive, particularly as just a year ago, almost to the day, I had a massive heart attack. I recovered well from that, doing aerobics and using a treadmill most days. Perhaps this battle is one too many. Stories of steady recovery would be much appreciated.
Hi Unawatuna
I'm very sorry to hear of your lung cancer diagnosis, recent surgery and extended hospital stay. I have not had the same type of cancer but have had major surgeries and subsequent treatment. It is a lot to go through and I would expect it to take some time to get yourself pulled round. Be gentle with yourself but also look for ways of aiding your recovery. You could possibly ask yourself these questions.....
Do you have a CNS that you could call for advice? Would it be worth seeing your GP re pain relief? Are you feeling low as a result of pain and lack of sleep or do you think it could be the start of depression? It's all about the little steps that will help to make yourself feel better.
I hope that other lung members see your post now that it is back at the top. I wish you well in your recovery. Best regards.

Also having just had a Lobectomy, I know a wee bit where your coming from. I'm surprised at how much sleep I'm having, although a wee bit erratic, which I'm working on with sleeping tablet's. The pain can be severe but I'm taking pain meds on a more regular basis. I normally see how little I can take but now I take the minute it's coming on, following pain nurse's advice and nipping it in the bud. Meditation is a great comfort, I'm a regular at that though. Breathe counting beats sheep.

Hi Unawatuna
I know exactly how you feel. I had a massive bowel op with an Ileostomy for Bowel cancer and recovered stayed up beat got my reversal and Bang. Yearly monitoring found primary lung cancer. Had lower right lobectomy and top segment
It took the wind out of my sails.
Take care and rest when you need. I found power naps were definitely needed. my pain management was limited as I was paranoid about my bowel control so I was uncomfortable but it was manageable
Take care
Ann
