Hi everyone. My name is Toni and I live in Leicester. I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer 3 years ago. I was initially treated with Immunotherapy about 21 treatments. I then last year was treated with chemotherapy followed by maintenance chemotherapy. My last treatment was in December 22. I decided to stop the chemo due to the awful side affects. I am 77 and decided I wanted to spend my time positively with my grandchildren. This has been very successful and I feel so much better. Also much to my surprise my last 2 scans have been stable. That’s my introduction Grinning anyway the reason for this post is I would like to go abroad to Europe for a short holiday but am having trouble finding insurance. I was told today that I must have a prognosis that would last at least 6 months after the holiday so as holiday is in October means my prognosis must extend till next May. I said I was unsure if a prognosis like this could be given. I have asked Consultant for his view but not sure he will do that. Has anyone here had experience of this please. I feel I should be grateful and just Accept living day to day. Thank you Toni

  • Hi Toni. Travel insurance is very tricky when you have cancer, but it is possible. It does become really hard when you start to talk about a terminal diagnoses, ie when you have been told you have months or weeks to live. As you have not been told this by your oncologist then you are not terminal, but incurable but stable. This is the very important part as far as insurance is concerned.

There is a group here in the online community where there are lots of recommendations for travel insurance. I will pop a link below, if you click on that it will take you straight to the group.

Good luck, and have a lovely holiday!
