Hi Everyone.

I was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in March, it is in my right upper and lower lobes the upper being the largest probably stage 2 now and is increasing in size.

Due to the positions a biopsy is not possible except by surgery, which although I'm willing to have it done the MDT meeting keeps refusing to do it as I have other health problems.

Because of this I can't have radiotherapy as to close to my Trachea and can't have Chemotherapy as they don't know exactly what type of cancer it is .

SO WHAT IS LEFT FOR ME???

It is playing on my mind so much I feel so low and deppressed and was wondering if there is anyone out there in a similar position??

Thanks,

  • Hello Dollar,

I am sorry to hear that you have had a diagnosis of lung cancer and are worrying about what treatment you can have. I had a different type of cancer but saw you had not yet had a reply so thought by responding it will move your post back to the top and hopefully someone will see it and offer support.

Being diagnosed with cancer is always a stressful and worrying time, where you have lots of questions. It must have been hard to find out that the MDT are not keen to do a biopsy by surgery due to your other health problems. I see that they feel that radiotherapy and chemotherapy are also not options. I can understand how worrying it is , not knowing what is coming next.

I have found some info that might help as it says about the different treatments that are available and I thought perhaps it may help for when you next see your consultant to discuss what happens next.

Lung cancer treatment - types and what to expect | Macmillan Cancer Support

If you go down to the middle of the page it talks about other options apart from chemo and radiotherapy.

I hope this helps a bit. If there is anything else you need please just ask. The waiting to find out what is next is tough. If you feel it would help to chat to someone please consider giving the Support line a call- they are lovely on there.

  • Hello Dollar I’m sorry to hear about your lung cancer diagnosis without any treatment being offered. I’m not sure if this will help but you can ask the following:- Are there any ongoing or future clinical trials you could benefit from? Can you get a 2nd opinion? Lastly call either the Macmillan or Roy Castle Lung Cancer helplines whose helplines are staffed by wonderful people trying to assist and support you. I hope you have friends and / or relatives who can support too.
wishing you all the best and hoping you get answers and support

  • Hi dollar. I'm Tracy sorry to hear your news, iv had my right upper lobe removed and resection in lower right lung , I have copd and have been great after ops as I was told and believe surgery is the gold treatment , can I ask why u don't want the operation.i git collapsed lung with my first biopsy so never took biopsy 2nd time in and out with surgery

  • hi.

    Thanks for your reply,

I really do want the surgery but the MDT team keep refusing me as I have other medical problems .by them refusing me this option they cannot get a diagnosis of the cancer as they cannot get to it due to it's position so other treatments aren't possible as they can't identify what type of cancer it is
