They just gave me my appointment for pet scan and apparently I cant be around my kids afterwards? Help I dont understand I live with my 17 yr old and my 18 yr old.. I dont think I can take much mor..
Hi - when I had my pet scan I was told not to go near babies and pregnant women. I’m sure you’ll be okay with teenagers x
The radioactive tracer gives off very small levels of radiation that go away very quickly. As a precaution, you should avoid close contact with pregnant women, babies and young children for 6 hours after the scan.
You will be fine and a PET scan is no problem. Nothing to worry about. Just need something to pass time like a book or iPad. I took knitting which was fine I was knitting premie blankets
i nearly fell asleep in the scanner. It’s like a fat CT scan
Ann
No you don’t.
They need you to be radioactive which will highlight any areas of concern.
It’s a pretty amazing scan. Well I found it comfortable and pleasant. Nothing like an MRI You will go into your own room, they will inject you with the magic stuff then you have to wait probably half an hour. I was able to go to the toilet no issues.
Have the scan stay away from others and away. My husband and I went for a lovely take out as mine was dinner time and I was starving. I seem to remember not eating but not hundred percentage about that
It’s no problem honestly. I am a whimp and I would have another tomorrow
Ann
i was under the impression when i had my PET scan that it was children ,and pregnant woman not teenagers ,its because the dye they use is radio active ,when you go for your scan you will be injected with a dye which can take up to an hour to get around your body as you will be left in a room on your own take something to occupy you like a book ,or magazine.otherwise the PET scan is pretty calming ,i nearly fell asleep ,
Yes it is.
Pregnant ladies, babies and children under six for six hours
I nearly fell asleep too
