Hello. I was recently diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the lung and due to have a left upper lobectomy next week. Just wondering what people's experiences are post lobectomy, with regarding to discomfort, breathlessness and recovery. Feeling a bit apprehensive about what to expect after the operation.
Many thanks x
You will be apprehensive ,I was it was the unknown. I'm now 12 weeks post lower left lobectomy and feeling good . Have returned to my walking group the last 2 weeks and have managed to complete 2 mile walk with a ten minute rest in the middle of it. Still getting twinges when I yawn or sneeze but managing with prescribed painkillers.
Hope all goes well with your operation
Im a week post upper post upper right lobectomy. Home after 4 days. Getting better every day. Bruising pain managed with paracetamol.
went out for lunch today. Making sure to rest regularly and I’m sleeping well too.
Hi Daisy83
Im from the Bowel group I had a LAR Aug21 ,reversal Nov 22 and lower lobectomy and top segment right lung.
After that I’m feeling well. My recovery is slow and steady but I’ve had a bashing.
Great news the cancer is in the bin
Thats the focus getting that gone.
The best to you with the operation. I was anxious too I think we all are. I just trusted my medics to remove it from me.
They will take care of any pain that you may have and help you to get up and out.
Keep us updated. I’m sending you a hug
Ann
I had the same as you on Saturday and everything went well, really bad pain in my shoulder when I came around but I did have issues with my shoulder pre-op they sorted that out before I left recovery, had drain removed Monday and went home the same day. Just remember to take the laxatives while you are taking codeine as being constipated is no joke. Before my operation my blood pressure went through the roof because I was so anxious but my experience has been all positive.
I had top right Lobectomy 8 weeks today , spent 10 days in hospital as the rest of lung wouldn't inflate. Went home with a flutter bag with drainage tube. Was in agony for at least 2 weeks.
Been a slow process , finally thought I was doing well , gets phone call of surgeon last week. I have secondry cancer in my nodes.
Went to Clatterbridge yesterday , they are hoping they got it all. Now have to have another CT and then 12 sessions of Chemo.
I read these stories and people doing so well on Recovery straight after there Ops , unfortunately I wasn't one of them and I was working full time and was quite fit and healthy.
I hope I get back there in months to come.
Hi Daisy 83, I know how daunting this surgery can be. I was diagnosed with a Neuroendocrine tumour in my upper left lobe and told that because it was very close to my main artery, could not be removed. Fast forward 18 months and with a second opinion, it was recommended that it could indeed be removed safely. I was also concerned about pain and difficulty breathing afterwards too. I had the surgery twelve weeks ago today. Due to the location of the tumour, it was a long and complicated procedure because they also had to reconstruct my aorta and part of the bronchi. I would be lying if I said it was a straight forward recovery. The pain wasn't too bad at all and is manged with very strong pain killers and I think that was part of the problem for me. They made me terribly depressed and very weepy. I came off them as soon as I could and began to feel more like myself. My breathing has changed slightly but not as bad as I had feared. I found the extreme fatigue very debilitating though. I suppose it is different experience for each individual and I'm sure it will be for you. Ishing you the best of luck for your surgery and I'm sure it will go really well for you.
Thank you Barbarella glad to hear you are recovering well and get out. Hoping your pain eases up as as you continue to recover x
Thank you Backpackstress, thanks for the heads up with the laxatives. Reassuring to hear you've had a positive experience. Wishing you all the best with your recovery xx
