Hi,
Im new here, I have just been diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma. It start as a chest infection, then pneumonia but I could not stop coughing. After 2 CT scans I went for a lung biopsy. I have my PET scan next week and am feeling a little nervous.
I'm trying to stay strong and not look at doctor Google, but waiting is so hard.
Hello Willow
I was diagnosed last year with a similar cancer. Please don’t feel nervous about the PET scan. I found it far less invasive than the lung biopsy which left me with a minor pneumothorax and an overnight stay in hospital. They need to do all the investigating so they know what to offer as the next steps. The MDT (Multi Disciplinary Team) will assess your results and put a plan together and then one of the consultants will see you to discuss the results. I kept myself distracted by watching lots of TV and refusing as you are doing to read all sorts of stuff on Dr Google. These days there are many different treatments available.
If you do need to talk to someone you can call the McMillan nurses or Roy Castle nurses. They were always very helpful for me during the diagnosis time. It’s all the writing that is so challenging to manage.
Anyway, wishing you all the best Daisychain

I know how you feel. The early tests, waiting and worrying I found the very worst part I am from the Bowel Cancer group , I was picked up on my first year CT. I was referred and had a lobectomy March.
The PET scan is the easiest of all there’s nothing to be done and the scanner is like a huge donut. Not like the MRI which is more like a tunnel. It’s best to take a book or phone to pass the time as they will inject you and leave you for about 30 mins. I took some knitting. Once in the scanner I nearly fell asleep
Hope all goes well. Chat here if it helps

PET scans are the easy bit ,its the waiting ,a little tip ,take off all neck jewellery ,and wear a soft bra if needed ,no belts or buckles ,then you dont have to strip down to wear a hideouse gown.Take a book or magazine as you will be in a room on your own for at least an hour ,i took my kindle,it kept me sane ,My PET scan showed a small nodule on the lung ,which was removed last year with surgery ,i have just had my 6 month assesment and everything is clear ,no re occurance ,hopefully your results will be even better
Thank you so much, thats good advice and I'm sobgkad to here that you are clear. Take care if yourself.
