Hi everyone hope you are all doing well, I had 3/4s of my upper left lobe removed 6 weeks ago and was wondering if anyone has had this same problem, my nose and throat is constantly bunged up and mes it hard to breathe and I can't sit back on the sofa or a chair for too long as it feels like I am been crushed and still can't sleep in bed because if I lay flat I struggle to get my breath, I amurrently waiting for a call back from my doctor about this but was hoping for some advice from people who have had this surgery
Hi Caire,
After 6 weeks you should be all healed up in there so no air leaks. It's possible you have an infection though? Whatever, you're all clogged up now and can't breathe properly. I remember back when Covid was doing its worst the hospitals found that proning the patients helped them to breathe - i.e. don't lie on your back, do lie on your tummy. When I'm clogged up I find a Vick's inhaler stick helps too (it has menthol, camphor & pine).
Otherwise hang tight and wait on the doctor. You've had major surgery so milk that for everything it's worth when you phone your GP.
Hope you feel better soon.
kind regards
Steve
Hi Guardian,
I still find my nose seems to produce mor mucus than it did as does my remaining 1.5 lungs. I had my lobectomy almost a year ago now but have avoided taking any medication. I initially had a triangular pillow to keep me propped up and this certainly helped. I gave it up after a while and now sleep on my left side as the lobectomy was on my right.
Last time I saw my consultant I told her about the extra mucus problem. I’ve found that exercise quite often helps the whole breathing thing. One thing that I do when I’m dry fed up with the stuffy nose is to take an antihistamine. This certainly makes a difference in the the short term. I’ve avoided steroids up to now.
Wishing you good luck in sorting this out
All the best Daisy xx
Hi thank you for your reply, it is really frustrating, I can't blow my nose as there is nothing coming up,been doing the breathing exercises too and that isn't helping either, the worst thing is laying in bed, I would love to sleep in bed but just too uncomfortable xx
