My husband's 3rd chemo cycle didn't go ahead today as the blood test showed that the white blood cell count was very low. Has anyone else experienced this and if so were there any suggestions regarding meds or diet that could help? Thank you all
Hiya zebra
I had the same issue when I did my chemotherapy all you can do is wait for the bloods to reach the required levels, just keep eating a balanced healthy diet, I was six weeks before I could continue treatment, but don't worry it actually means the chemo is working very well in the body.
Wishing you well with further treatment

Hello Hamhat again, I've appreciated your advice before - thank you. It's interesting to learn that it took 6 weeks before you could resume chemo treatment. It's also reassuring that it's not unusual for this low blood count. I have always cooked 'from scratch'. No processed food - fresh meat and fish and vegetables etc etc. Wishing you all the best and thank you again for your advice. Love and hugs to you.
Hi Zebra
It is a common side effect of chemo. Both my red and white cell counts went t]through the floor, and twice my chemo sessions were delayed by a week each.
To increase my white cell count, my cancer team prescribed a 5 day course of injections to boost my bone marrow production, which in turn increases the white cell production. Ask your hubby's cancer team about this.
I gave myself the injections; very easy to do as they only need to go into fatty areas such as tummy or thighs.
Hope this helped a bit.
Thank you Kegsy for that information about your experience. The next cycle is set to start 3 weeks after it should but the consultant was not perturbed at all, which I hope is encouraging. We had our covid booster at a walk in pharmacy on the way back from the rad at hospital today. And then we voted in the local election. Guess this is the level of our excitement at the moment Once again, thanks for your help - this is such a useful forum. People like you are lovely.
