Hi all. My husband had a cough that we thought was long Covid but when antibiotics didn’t help he eventually had a ct scan (X-ray was clear). They have discovered a tumour in his left lung. Devastated. They have swiftly followed with a Pet scan and a biopsy plus a further ct scan on his head. We are currently waiting on the results. In the space of two weeks he has gone from fully functioning to almost bedridden and in such pain. I don’t know how to help him, and at a loss what to do. He runs his own business and we’re in the middle of moving house. I’m overwhelmed.
Hi Sonnet welcome to the group, but so sorry you find yourself here. Finding out a loved one has cancer is very scary, especially if you see a sudden change in their health. You also have a lot going on so I am not surprised you are overwhelmed.
Is there someone else who is at the helm of the business whisky your husband is out of action ? When a cancer diagnoses is given one of the first things we worry about is finances and how we will cope. If you need to speak to one of Macmillan’s Ask a Financial Guide here, or you can call the support line on 0808 808 00 00 and they will put you in touch with someone.
I am so sorry to hear that your husband is so much pain. That must be frightening for you both. I don’t know if he has been assigned a lung nurse yet, but if not do speak to his GP to see if they can help to get the pain under control. As Cei b has mentioned, the early days of waiting for treatment are the hardest, and you do feel very much in limbo waiting for a treatment plan. I hope you do not have too long to wait x
Dear Chelle thank you for your reply. It is just a small business, my husband deals with the clients and I do all the internal stuff. You and Cei are right once we have a treatment plan then I can work out what to say to customers and just hope they are patient enough not to jettison all his hard work. It is good to know the support line could direct me to some help in this respect.
No, he has not been assigned a lung nurse yet but 111 sent an ambulance team out to check him out over the weekend and help him with pain meds as far as they could in their remit which was so incredibly good of them.
I don't understand why he has gone downhill so fast after his bronchoscopy . Is it common to get infections following this? I got some antibiotics from the gp this morning hoping they may help.
