Hello, I'm new here so not sure how it works...

My dad recently been diagnosed with lung cancer, now it is stage 4 lung cancer. The doctor has identified a mutation called EGFR gene and given osimertinib as tablets to take to reduce the shrinking and  of the cancer tumours. The doctor has said no to surgery, chemo or radiotherapy as it has spread to his body. I was wondering if anyone is similar situation and can share some light on this or give similar advice on other treatment there is out there that can treat and get rid of the cancer cells/tumour or if EGFR gene can get rid of completely by osimertinib? What is stage 4 cancer? Should I be concerned? Can it be cured?

  • Hi there Halo

my husband received the same diagnosis in August and was advised it was incurable and  inoperable. Same treatment.

i have read positive feedback on here for some people taking osimertinib and at the 7 week scan the reduction was outstanding, we were all shocked, however in February after another scan we got the news it had spread and grown bigger than when we began.

this week he signed up to a clinical trial and we now have almost 3 weeks to wait until he starts treatment.

it's hard wherever this finds you and we just have to learn to find a way through it one day at a time.

sending best wishes for your dad x

  • Currently my dad is only just started the treatment of osimertinib a few days ago and trying my best to stay hopeful that the medicine will get rid the cancer. Thank you for your kind message and wishing you and your husband all the best wishes also.  X

  • Hello halo

My mum started on this treatment 5 weeks ago we are currently waiting her first scan.   At diagnosis we were told my mum was stage 4 so that’s advanced lung cancer with spread to her pelvis.   We have been told it’s inoperable and that there is no cure.   This treatment is to hopefully stabilise the cancer and keep it at bay  which I’m praying for. It’s been a very difficult time but I’m glad she is able to receive treatment.     I wish you and your dad well with his treatment.

  • Hi there, sorry to hear about your mum and wishing you and your mum the best wishes too. Thank you for your kind message xx
