Hi Everyone
I am 69 years old and didn't have any symptoms until the beginning of October. I have never smoked a cigarette in my life.
After many tests, scans, bronchospocy and lung bioposy, I have been told I have a 7cm (at last measuring) tumour in my left lung which is starting to encroach on the chest wall.
The current plan from Oncology is 6 weeks of radiotherapy with some chemo mixed in at various points. I have been approved for surgery if my doctors think it's best to go down that route, however, they were suggesting removing the entire left lung, which is very scary.
To top it off I had a phone call yesterday telling me to go straight to hospital as they had noticed a blood clot on my latest scan. I spent 4 hours there and came home with blood thinners.
I'm not sure how the blood thinners will affect my treatment as I am supposed to start within the next 2 weeks.
I am glad I have found somewhere to talk about my cancer. The very words 'my cancer' still feel like I am talking about someone else.
Thanks for reading
Hello Dallendra,
What a shock for you so no wonder you’re still reeling. I was diagnosed last March at the age of 69, following a lung health check. I however, had been a smoker for much of my life, so although I was shocked I wasn’t surprised. It sounds as though your hospital is looking after you really well. I’m sure they won’t operate unless they believe it to be the best for you in the long term. I had top right lobe of my right lung removed in May and although it’s left me a little breathless, I’m glad they were able to operate on my cancer as not everyone has the opportunity.
It all seems rather surreal, even now, so you are certainly not alone. It’s good to be able to chat here and share your feelings and ask for advice. I’ve found it very useful to be able to talk to the nurses here as it’s not always easy to get in contact with my cancer nurse at tThe hospital. I’ve been in panics on more than one occasion and it’s so comforting to talk to someone who knows. I hope they sort your blood clot really quickly so you can start your treatment. It’s all the waiting (for me) that I found the worst experience.
Anyway, all best wishes, love Daisy x
Hi Dallendra welcome to the group but sorry you find yourself here.
It is so scary when you are told you have cancer, and you really do feel like you have been knocked off your feet. I too had the feeling that I was watching it happen to someone else. It does get easier with time.
I had blood clots on my lung when I was first diagnosed. Although I did not have chemo it did not stop the radiotherapy I had. Hopefully it won’t interfere with your treatment either x
Thank you for your reply. I’m glad I’ve found these forums and I hope I can both receive and give encouragement to fellow sufferers.
Hi Dallendra
sounds the same as my partner , he has never been poorly untill May 31st 2022.
He also has left lung cancer , also we had a call to say he had a blood clot on his right lung , which was picked up on his scan after chemo .
He is on blood thinners Apixaban it shouldn’t make any difference to your treatment he is currently on a break due to immunotherapy issues ..
Try not to worry I’m sure your treatment will continue .
All the best mamma x
