Hello everyone
This week my mum has been diagnosed with small cell lung cancer , it seems it’s only in her left lung but the tumour is already 7 cm

doctor said that it has not spread to other body parts,

we waiting for brain scans to confirm all

She is 52 years old, recently stopped smoking as she was a chronic smoker

overall health is very good no other issues

only symptom is a chronic cough developed 2 months ago

surgery is not possible due to the size of tumour

she is due to start chemo and radiotherapy next week

I would like to get in touch with other people affected by this

thank you and wish you all health and best of luck Fingers crossed

  • Hi my mum has also been diagnosed with small cell lung cancer hers has spread she was only diagnosed 3 weeks ago there’s nothing more they can do for her apart from chemo but that’s just to prolong her life.

  • Hi Alex I was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer on the 3rd of Dec I'm 53. I went to A&E innisially for numbness on my lower left hand side of my body. The cancer had spread there. I have had radiotherapy for that and I'm due my 4th round of chemotherapy next Friday and 3rd round of immuno therapy. I had a recent ct scan and the oncologist is really pleased so far on how much the mass has shrunk xxx Claire

  • Hey Alex,  my mum is 76, she has 2 different lung cancers in the same lung (right one only)  1 top and 1 bottom, top one only about 1cm  but bottom one about 5cm.  no spread to anywhere else, but not in the best of health. she has COPD so thats no ideal. so surgery and chemo are off the table, shes on her 3rd week of 20 sessions of radiotherapy, but shes had pnuemonia this last week and has been on antibiotics too.  shes developed a horrendous cough but thats probably the pnuemonia. so far shes been reasonably ok with the radiotherapy, but its about now the fatigue might kick in. my stepdad has parkinsons so home situation is not really ideal for either of them right now.  were just trying to stay positive and hope for the best outcome.  please keep your chin up  and stay positive too

  • My husband waiting for 1st biopsy after we were told last week he has a mass on lung spread to lymph nodes. We are in shock he hasn't lost weight he is 70 but was coughing up blood never expected this im finding it hard to keep him optimistic hes a very solitary man we have 8 grandchild but he has minimal contact I do it all I keep spirits up all day then cry at night I fear the outcome of biopsy from what I've read prognosis doesn't look good.

  • My dad has also just been diagnosed with limited Small cell lung cancer (stage 3 was also mentioned).  It was found 'accidentally' as he had a chest X-ray due to being hit with a car door opening!!  He also starts chemo/radio at the same time for a few weeks.  This morning he had a call from the hospital as, after a blood test, it was found that he has low sodium levels.  They have to keep an eye on this but apparently it is a symptom of small cell lung cancer.

He hasn't even had a cough so it has all been quite a shock.

  • Hi Alex I'm anne my husband was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer spread to lymph nodes 10 days ago he had been coughing up blood and had a cough but otherwise well it was such a shock we are both 70 he had a biopsy 3 days ago and the time is dragging on so long for the results to come back. He is very independent and quite moody even more so now I'm up at least twice a night making him tea filling hot water bottles last 2 nights he has had bad leg cramps I'm afraid now maybe it's spread to the bones trying to remain positive for him but really worried we have 8 grandchildren so I'm keeping busy with them but rushing back as I don't want to leave him alone he's getting more breathless every day just wondering if we should phone contact number they gave us for any news or just wait? Best of luck to you such a hard situation all round anne

  • Oh I'm so sorry to hear that waiting for results of my husbands biopsy every day is like a month x

  • Hi sorry to hear that, maybe phone hospital for advice, Two hearts
