Been told today that Dad's (84) cancer has spread to muscle, bones, stomach and brain. Only recieved cancer diagnosis two weeks ago. No treatment to be offered as not well enough. Medication to aid symptoms.Steroids given today to help with appetite as only managing to eat two mouth fulls of food.
Been left and don't know what else to do. Phoned council for assessment for carers. Not sure of who else to turn to.
I am back at work next week and worrying so much. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Flicker welcome to the group, but sorry to hear about Dad. The steroids should certainly help with dads appetite. Looking after a loved one with cancer is so hard, especially as you have work yourself. It is good to see that an assessment for carers is arranged. You can also phone the Macmillan support line, who can advise you with any other benefits your dad may be eligible for. They are available 7 days a week from 8am until 8pm on 0808 808 00 00.
There are also some support groups on the online community that you may want to join, where you can connect with others who are caring for loved ones with cancer.
