Hi everyone. I had a lung resection in August with 4 sections removed. Fortunatly I am lucky and all seems to have gone well. I have been having preventative Chemo, which is not going so well. My blood's are slow to recover and I am getting some side effects but the main issue is I keep getting a horrendous dry cough. So out of 4 sessions I have managed to get through 1.5 over approx 11 weeks. I have seen 2 consultants 1 indicated that I should perhaps stop as it's making me ill and the other just said the decision is mine! Needless to say I'm in a quandry as to what I should do. Has anyone heard of this problem
I had some issues with my chemo because one of them gave me bad reactions and in the end I had to stop that one and continued on with just the one …. I think you need to know from your consultant how important this part of the treatment is to you ? It really isn’t your decision if your bloods aren’t playing the game is it? Maybe a different chemo might help ? Much love Elly x
Thanks very much Ellie. Will not see the consultant until after the next round of chemo, need to attend pre chemo on 30th if I want to carry on. My children really think i should continue but they don't have to deal with feeling like crap most of the time. Head goes round and round......Stress....... Think I need to try and put it to bed until after Xmas . Have a lovely Xmas and may 2023 be kind. To you. Hugs Xxx
Hi Ellie. Hope you're well and had a good Xmas and New year. Was due for treatment day 1 again last Tuesday but white count not good enough again. Blood test today to see if I can go ahead next Tuesday. I am finding that when I had an end date I was okay but the more that is pushed out the harder I am finding it mentally. More mood swings tears etc. And I really don't like it it is not me!!!
Hiya cajan.
I hope this message finds you with some answers that you need. I apologise for the delay responding. If you tap on my avatar you can see my journey so far. I developed sepsis after my first round of chemotherapy, it took 6 weeks to get my level back to normal to be able to continue with treatment and the chemo dosage was reduce to prevent a recurrence. The final decision to continue or not is yours and I know that's not easy. I did continue and fortunately had no additional upsets. I completed 4 cycles of chemotherapy and immunotherapy combined and I continue with maintenance immunotherapy. If I'm honest some days I would happily have stopped treatment as I felt rough, however other days I was a fighter and I continue to fight, I see it this way, I'm in charge of the cancer, the cancer is not n charge of me.
I'm not sure what I've had to say will help at all but I'm happy to chat and answer questions if you need to explore the issue.
Have a good evening Donna
