Hello
I had a Lobectomy upper right lung. 8 weeks ago. I am 71 but very fit. My breathing is fine most of the time. Its the fatigue I'm struggling with. I had a viral infection, nausea and running to loo constantly. 4 weeks ago I'm still not quite recovered.
I do have some discomfort from the surgery, mostly nerve ending pain. Feels like pins and needles. I do have the medication to help.
I know it's early days yet to expect a return to normal health. I suspect I'm just impatient..
Hi MBC51 welcome to the group but sorry you find yourself here.
I am sorry to hear you are struggling with fatigue. You have been through an awful lot in a short time. Any cancer diagnoses causes anxiety, then you have had surgery, and a viral infection. There are some really nasty viruses going around at the moment, and when you have had surgery as well, I am not surprised you are taking a little longer to recover.
Have you spoken to your GP? It might be worth running a blood test to see if you are anaemic after the tummy bug, anaemia can make you very tired. Xx
Hello MBC51 ,I had a lobectomy in July ,and was told to expect fatigue ,and was also told when i did to rest or sleep if thats what my body needed ,i was still having fatigue at 12 weeks ,but the infection will not help ,nerve ending pain is also normal ,i am still having it now off and on ,i am 65 ,and it was my middle lobe that was removed ,but i must admit that i have started to feel much better since november ,dont rush you will get there quicker if you rest when your body needs it
Hello Christine
Thank you, your reply has helped me.
I've had this nausea and running to Loo since 2nd November..
Just last week it dawned on me that the pain and discomfort is coming from a life long sensitive stomach. I have a history of duodenal ulcer and helicobacter. I thought the pain was from surgery, my head just wasn't on straight.
I eventually got a face to face appointment with my GP last Friday. I've had several telephone consultations..Examination proved me right. I'm now on much increased medication to stabilise my stomach and daily anti sickness tablets.
If this doesn't work I'll need to be off all stomach medication for 2 to 3 weeks so tests can be done for helicobacter. I know that can be treated with antibiotics.
Hopefully a week or two should see an improvement.
Many thanks
