Hi Found out yesterday after PET scan an Ebus that husband has stage 4 lung cancer - we had initially been told it was probably t2 so are devastated. See the consultant next week for treatment options . Just feel that a bomb had gone off and waiting to be rescued out of the rubble. I have quite a few questions but need to see what consultant says next but I thought I’d join the forum to get a feel of what is to come ! Thanks
Hi cags1 welcome to the group, but sorry to hear about your husband. It is terrifying when a loved one is given a cancer diagnoses. The waiting for test results and treatment options is very hard. It seems to take so long to get to that point, but it will be full steam ahead once you know which treatment is being offered.
There is a Carers only forum that you may also find helpful to join. There you can connect with other people who are caring for loved ones with cancer. You can also call the Macmillan support line on 0808 808 00 00 if you need to talk to someone. They are available 7 days a week from 8am until 8pm.
Goid luck with the appointment next week, please let us know how it goes x
Good afternoon
Welcome to a group that none of us want to be part of.
My other half has a T3/4, N3, Mx cancerous tumour that is non-operable, and we were told yesterday probably non-curable (25% chance of survival with chemo).
We are awaiting results from a pancreas biopsy (should know Friday) to determine if he has a 2nd primary cancer.
I understand your devastation and pain and am sorry that you are having to go through this.
T-A, x
The pancreas biopsy did not show any results - tissue did not grow, so need to do the biopsy again. But his lungs are so bad, they started treatment for the lungs and will worry about the pancreas when that treatment has finished.
They believe it is a 2nd primary due to the way the body flows - it is extremely rare for a lung cancer to travel to the pancreas, but a pancreas tumour will spread to the lungs. As the lung is definitely a primary, they believe the pancreas one will be a primary as well.
The pancreas tumour was originally found on the PET-CT. From the scans they believe it to be a NET (Neuroendocrine tumour).
Thank you so much for your reply. The reason I asked is that I was being investigated for digestive issues and had a CT and MRI scan. They found a cystic lesion on my pancreas which they are monitoring. They incidentally found a nodule on my lung and I was sent for a PET scan and although the lung nodule didn't light up on the PET scan the respiratory consultant still think it could be a slow growing cancer and recommended surgery to remove it to which I agreed. I was just worried that the lesion on my pancreas could be connected to the lung nodule, although the respiratory consultant said no other areas of concern had shown on the PET scan and that's why she was recommending surgery for the.lung module and I am currently awaiting a date for the op. I think your mind just goes into overdrive in these circumstances and all the 'what ifs' keep you awake at night. I'm sure you know what I mean.
I hope your husbands treatment goes well and they get him sorted out
Once again many thanks for your reply.
Best wishes
