My mum has stage four lung cancer which has metastasised to the lymph nodes and pelvis since Jan this year. She was receiving chemo and immunotherapy until early sept when treatment had to stop as it was damaging her liver and kidneys. She’s now on steroids and was doing quite well, had quality of life but in the last few weeks things have changed. she’s tired all the time , the pain in the pelvis has returned and she now says she has a pain constantly on the top
of her head ?? She was scanned again this week with results due on the 29/11. I’m really worried as she seems to have suddenly deteriorated and this change has come from nowhere. I know she can’t be cured but just looking for other peoples experiences / thoughts. Thankyou
Hi there, this must be so tough for you as a daughter to see your mum going through all of this. I also have stage 4 lung cancer and was only diagnosed late September this year so can only imagine how much of a toll this must be taking on your mum for nearly a year and for you of course. Once I met my oncology team they asked me if I was happy for them to also take calls from my daughter or husband to discuss my treatment etc, and I have given permission for this. We also have a Maggie's Centre that I haven't visited yet but I am intending to visit with my daughter one day next week.
Your mum must so appreciate your support. We all know that sadly there is no cure currently but it it so important to feel that you are being listened to and are receiving the best support and treatment possible. Sometimes this might mean making contact with your mum's GP, or Oncology nurse or a Macmillan Nurse (I am still navigating all of this myself, so I am not so experienced with all of the support areas currently).
I really hope your mother gets the appropriate pain relief and can be offered another treatment that will be less harmful to her other organs. My thoughts and prayers are with you both on this journey ...God Bless you both x
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
