Hi there , welcome to the forum but sorry you find yourself here ….. it’s a tough struggle to accept a diagnosis isn’t it ….. have you both got good support ? X

  • Hi EllyB , thank you for welcoming us to the group, I think my partner is finding it difficult to except his diagnosis as he has always been a very 54 year old  active man who got up to go to work every day as a painter and decorator then he would go to the Gym after work now he struggles to keep awake most of the time and as little contact with the outside world. In regard to support Elly, no we don't have any support because sometimes i think my partner is in denial. Thank you, Netty, ps i love reading your story, Glad you are doing well x

  • Hi internet

you might like to read profile. I have the same diagnosis, I was diagnosed December 2021 and began my treatment January 2022.

like your partner I am 58 and fit until now and even now I can say I don’t feel poorly. I sometimes think maybe they got it wrong etc, I know the haven’t really I do. It is really important you both get support, you should have been assigned a nurse specialist by your consultant if you haven’t then please ask your consultant about this, my nurse specialist is absolutely great and has been all along for me. Your GP will also be able to provide sources of support for you, there is also maggies and of course this forum.

we are all here because we have cancer or are caring for someone with cancer, please don’t be afraid to ask for help. I have sent you a friendship request if you want to chat outside this forum, I’m in a good place now and happy to be open about my cancer, and if I can help you at all please feel free to ask a question.

in the meantime take care hugs to both

    Donna

  • I must also say people on this forum are great at supporting each other as you move along the way you’ll find that out for yourself, your never alone.

I was the same , fit and very active , so it is a shock . You do need support darling and this group will always be here and you can chat to us along the way … I have a Maggies nearby too , they are great centres to go to just chat or talk to one of their support team if you’re having a bad day … also the macmillan help line have been amazing too on my sobbing and  feeling overwhelmed days …. All this support is there for both of you so use it as you go through the next few weeks …. Much love Elly x
