  • Hello everyone, I'm a 76-year-old woman newly diagnosed with upper lobe lung cancer. I'm having a bronchoscopy on Thursday 1st September, and I'm full of anxiety regarding the procedure. Can anyone who has been through it give me some reassurance?
  • Thank you.
  • Had a bronchoscopy in 2019 for beast cancer mets. Very easy and comfortable procedure with a little sedation. Nothing to worry about. Good luck.

  • Thank you so much x

I hope you are well now.

  • I had this twice (first time in the initial diagnosis process then about a year later when I had suspected recurrence which thankfully turned out to be a false alarm). I was anxious just like you are now but there's really nothing to worry about, you will be given a sedative to relax and it's most likely you won't even remember much about it afterwards.

I hope all goes well for you.

  • Thanks so much for your reassurance. I'll.let you know if I was a wimp! Wink

  • You're not being a wimp at all, the whole thing is very daunting and there's nothing wrong with feeling anxious or just downright scared. I know I was well petrified at the time.

  • I too have recently bee; diagnosed with cancer in the upper lobe of my left lung. I had a bronchoscopy 3 weeks ago. I’m not going to lie they’re not pleasant BUT they will sedate you which makes the whole procedure a lot easier and once it’s done it’s done and I’m sure you will cope with it fine. I think the actual thought of the procedure is worse than the procedure itself. Good luck

  • Thank Mandie. I had it this morning. As you say, it’s not that bad at all. I could see the screen though and distinctly saw 3 white circles in a triangle. I see the consultant again on 13th. I wish you only good news. x
