Hello my dad has just been diagnosed with lung cancer & is shortly starting Chemoradiotherepy (both chemotherapy & radiotherapy).

I'm wanting to put a little bag together for him of things he may find useful & appreciate.

So I'm hoping you can help me please? I've got a few ideas, but would really like your input - thank you!!

Also any other things he might need once he gets home? Thanks

  • Hi, I have just finished my radiotherapy. Sometimes the treatment is delayed due to machine breakdown. We had a wait of 3 hours on one appointment.

so make sure you take any meds you may need to take, and something to eat,  a banana or tasty treat you may fancy. A drink and something for the mind. A crossword book or phone ideal. The hospitals tend to have good Wi-Fi so idle browsing is good.
I haven’t started chemo yet but I understand more of the same.

    Good luck

  • Thank you that is really helpful to know!

  • Hi Davies.

All treatment cycles have a varied amount of time some treatments are shorter than other, as woodseal has advised make sure your dad has plenty of stuff to keep the mind occupied. I would also advise you have some good moisturiser handy the treatment can cause dry skin issues all over the body. This is more annoying than anything but a good moisturiser will be a great help. The doctor can prescribe something for you dad, however I use a company call SBC www.sbcskincare.co.uk I use there propolis range of products they are non greasy, environmentally friendly and made here in the uk. I use hair shampoo and conditioner, shower gel and moisturiser gel. My skin has benefited from these products and I don’t have any issues or side affects from my treatment now. Good reading material is useful to and puzzle book if you dad enjoys that sort of stuff, most of all it’s important he has supportive people around him. I also have lung cancer and I’ve completed 4 cycles of chemotherapy and immunotherapy combined.

good luck with the treatment and keep us updated
