Hi peeps, just joined and wanted to say hello.
I was diagnosed with cancer purely by chance in October 2020 following a CT scan for an aneurysm on my aorta.
it was discovered in my left lung so I was sent for a PET scan which then showed cancer in my lymph nodes in my neck and also in my tonsils.
tonsils removed Xmas eve 2020, chemo and radiotherapy in February for 30 days.
I’ve just finished 12 months immunotherapy and have been told that my neck and tonsil area are clear, my left lung has shrunk but is still active.
no more treatments now, just 3 monthly X-rays and scans.
I have now put back the 25 kg I lost because I didn’t have solid food for 5 months.
I actually feel good in myself, although swallowing is still slightly uncomfortable as my throat doesn’t appear to be as flexible as it once was.
I’m retired, 69 years old and live in North Devon.

  • Hello you.  I’m new too. Not got as far as you yet

i had pain in left lung for 2 years,  because I was depressed no one seems to listen.  Then on doctor told me to go to a & e because had 3 DVT s and suddenly thought I’d got a clot ( after 2 years of pain , would have thought a clot fatal ??) after a scan found out I had a 6cm cancer

went through never ending waits for pet scan. , lung biopsy, then waiting for oncology appointments

finally have treatment dates. I can’t have chemotherapy or surgery because I have lung disease COPD.  So going as an inpatient for 12 days , 3 treatments a day , 36 in all.
needless to say I’m finding it a bit scary , I’m 77 and live alone

I’m pleased at least you have made some progress   Nice to chat to you. Xx

  • It is scary, however I found my oncology team wonderful.
im sure you’ll be fine once your treatment starts.

  • Hi GerryFS welcome to the group, but sorry you find yourself here. It is good to hear you are doing well after the immunotherapy treatment.

I have heard lots of stories from people in the group who’s lung cancer was picked up by routine X-rays or ct’s for other conditions. My lung sarcoma was only diagnosed because the tumour had broken through into the bronchial airway blocking the air into the lung. The oncologist at the time said to me that was lucky, or I could of carried on for years not knowing it was there. I didn’t feel lucky at the time that’s for sure.

    xx
