Greetings,
I am a 72 year old male x-smoker with stage 3 non small cell lung cancer. I took a fall in November and thought I had broken a rib. Went to Urgent Care and an X-ray revealed no broken rib but I did have a mass in my left lower lung. CT with contrast then a needle biopsy confirmed cancer. Also two lymph nodes in left lung also. One on aorta and one on esophagus. Non operable because of location on aorta. PET scan showed no other areas with cancer.
This was really hard on me to learn. Both my mom and maternal grandfather died of lung cancer. My mom was only 53.
Anyway, I didn’t think my treatment would ever start. From November 15th to March 3rd I just had to wait. Now I have completed 30 radiation and 7 chemo treatments.
Hi Lefty
I’m an ex-smoker diagnosed recently through the lung health check pilot that’s just started running here. I’m waiting for a lobectomy as mine is still operable. I may need further treatment later but they won’t know until after the operation and the close lymph nodes have been checked. It’s still a wait and see right now. At least I know it should be by 6 weeks time. The waiting is so challenging, isn’t it.
It looks as if quite a number of us find out by accident. I do hope your treatment has gone well
Best wishes x
Hi lefty, welcome to the group but sorry you find yourself here. The waiting is certainly very hard, I am glad that your treatment has now started. How are you feeling after the radiation ? Xx
