Terrified!

I'm new here, hi everyone!

In early January my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 NSCLC with secondary cancer in the plural cavity. The thorcic surgeon who gave us the news said my husband has 3-6 months to live, it feels impossible to take this information in and has come as a tremendous shock, especially since my husband has never so much as put a cigarette to his mouth and was outwardly fit and well and going to the gym just a month before he started to become short of breath!!

A month after the diagnosis the biopsy results have shown that my husband is a candidate for immunotherapy, he started treatment a week ago which feels like real milestone given what has felt like endless waiting for various results.

The oncologist is hopeful that the immunotherapy will extend my husbands life to some degree, however it can take anything from 4 weeks to 4 months (sometimes longer) to start working, I watch my husbands symptoms worsen and I'm absolutely terrified that we're running out of time.

Has anyone on this forum had experience of immunotherapy and the length of time it takes to kick in?

My husbands next scan is the end of April/beginning of May, which feels like FOREVER away!

Thinking of everyone affected by cancer, it's hideous!

  • My husband had his first treatment last Monday.. Triple therapy for stage 4.....its a horrible time but today... As he is feeling well today we have been for a run in the car...... Good luck.. The immunotherapy seems to be the golden nugget.

  • I have the same. I’m on my 2nd cycle of immunotherapy. The reasults after my first scan were excellent. Had no side effects (apart from fragile nails and the worst double crown ….ever). Good luck to you both!

  • Me dad has just been diagnosed with primary lung cancer, secondary in the brain. He’s been given up to 6mths. Only found out last week. It’s awful. Just all awful. We are awaiting a biopsy to see if he can have immunotherapy.
how poorly does it make you?
