Hi Baby cakes, welcome to the group, but sorry you find yourself here. That must of come as a shock to find out you have lung as well as liver cancer.
It is very scary when you get a diagnoses. I hope you have support at home, from family or friends. Have you been given a treatment plan yet?
Hi Shelley, sorry to hear about your husband. The early days prior to treatment starting, does seem to take such a long time. There needs to be certain tests and scans done before the oncology team hold what is called a MDT meeting. It is during this meeting that all tests are discussed and the best treatment plan is arranged. Everything moves very quickly after that, and you are usually told on the same day as the meeting or the very next day.
I know how stressful all the waiting is, and there are times when you feel that nothing is being done, but there is so much going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about. Each scan or biopsy needs reporting on, and that takes time.
There are NICE guidelines which the NHS have to follow. Every new “suspected” cancer patient is put on a pathway where there are targets of 62 days wait between the date cancer is suspected and referral sent, and the start of treatment. There is also no more than 31 days from when treatment is discussed and treatment starting.
I hope this information helps, but I know how terrifying you must be finding all of this. I hope you and your husband get some news soon x
