Hi, I have just been diagnosed with lung cancer. I have a large tumour which I am told is inoperable, and that my cancer will be "managed" by chemo or radiation or both. I am worried about how my wife is coping: she is not sleeping, and is frequently upset.   I am told that the cancer has not spread to lymph nodes, so I imagined it would be treatable.  Have an appointment to see oncology consultant on the 5th of Jan.

  • Hi Ganjo welcome to the group but sorry you find yourself here. It is terrifying when you are told you or a loved one has lung cancer. You are at the worst stage at the moment. In between diagnoses and treatment starting.  You feel in limbo, like it’s not really real, or is happening to someone else. Once the treatment starts you start to feel like you are taking back control, and it feels easier once you get into the routine with treatment.

Your poor wife. Bless her, it is completely normal how she is feeling right now. The fear of the unknown is so scary. The best advice I can give you is talk to each other as much as possible. Myself and my husband have always been so open about our feelings from the start of my diagnoses.

It sounds like the cancer is contained and not spread, so you are in a good position for treatment. Lots of us here in the group who have been around for a long time on treatment.

Good luck with the oncology appointment on the 5th January. Let us know how you get on.

Thank you Chelle. It certainly helps to have comments from someone who has been here. You are right about my feeling like I am in limbo, especially as I have no symptoms to speak of.
