I am an 80 year old male recently diagnosed with lung cancer.
I am told by surgeon that I have most unusual and very aggressive type of lung melanoma.
Preparing for surgery had lung and heart stress test after which I had cardiac arrest. Defibrillator inserted.
Following this delay had to have second PET scan.
Informed by consultant last week that two other areas for concern now. Chest wall and prostate.
Is this really happening to me.
Now I must wait for ultra sound and biopsy.
After that who knows.
JimmyC.
Hi JimmyC welcome to the group, but so sorry you find yourself here. What an awful time you have had so far. I am glad that they have sorted the heart issue, hopefully it won’t be too long now before you get all the necessary tests done and you can get back on the right track with treatment. Xx
Thank you chellesimo.
Have had positive chat with surgeon. He doesn’t see a problem.
Others say poor quality of life post surgery.
I don’t know which way to go.
I wonder who is saying poor quality of life post surgery? I had my right lung removed in 2014 and can definitely say that I don't have a poor quality of life, and I'm sure others will be able to say the same.
I would definitely give surgery serious consideration if eligible as it offers the best chance of a cure.
If there's anything more at all you would like to know just ask, I'll answer as best I can. In the meantime I wish you all the best in whichever path you eventually choose.
Derek.

Thank you for your reply.
Comments coming from assistant to surgeon and anaesthetist.
Surgeon was very positive but second PET scan shows concern re chest wall and prostate.
Lost a month as had cardiac arrest during stress test for surgery.
RFA has been mentioned.
This is a primary lung melanoma. Most unusual.
Hi jimmy, have they mentioned any other treatment if surgery is not an option? Surgery is usually the best option for a cure, and I understand about the other issues, but If it was me, I think I would put my trust in the surgeon x
