I have just had the results of my pet scan and have been told it is 3cm and I will be having an op, I'm absolutely scared stiff and feel stupid for admitting it, I don't know how to handle it and my family just keep saying don't worry it's probably nothing, I can't find the words to tell them how I'm feeling so when they ask I just say I'm fine

Hi Jane66m, I have just been told on Monday that I will be having surgery for my lung cancer too!

    1. I am scared too but have to think positive, and be brave for my daughter and granddaughters. I have only just moved into a flat of my own after having stayed with them, and looked after them for 9 years, and it's all happening at once! This is all new to me as well, although I helped look after my Mum through her ovarian cancer till the end. There' lovely people on here who will help us through this, so we're very lucky in that respect too.I'm new on here so I hope you get my message!! xxxx

Thank you, I've already gone through kidney cancer 5 years ago, it was all removed with no further treatment and now this, my dad died during a lung operation and it's the thought of this that scares me most, I do try to remain positive but sometimes the fear creeps up on me, sorry to hear about yourself and, it's always the children we think of first xx

Aw yes it is scary but I think it would help you if you told them how you do feel and good to talk about it not bottle it up you got a lot on your mind take care

  • It's a terrible shock to be diagnosed with lung cancer but do try to remain as positive as you can. Surgery offers the best possible chance of a cure, I had my right lung removed in 2014 and remain fit and well to date.

I recommend following all post operation advice given to you including walking / exercises to help your recovery, and wish you both well for a successful outcome.

Made in 1956. Tested to destruction.

Gosh you've been through so much already, and I'm sure you can have your strength carry you through this surgery too. Thank you and stay strong xx

  • So sorry you are going through this, you are not alone l have surgery on the 20th,  l like yourself am absolutely totally petrified. There are operations and operations l should not have googled it, l can’t see myself strong enough to get through it, l have a very low pain threshold, this horror story seems to be a slow drip of bad news.
    Thinking about you x
