My dad is 86 and today has been told that there is no treatment for him that would benefit his cancer in fact it would probably make him worse he is still focused on living as long as he can it's me who is finding it hard to take in
Hi . I'm not from this group, I just dropped by and noticed no-one has answered your post as yet. This is a very busy group so by my answering it'll "bump" your post back up to the top so I'm sure you'' get a more helpful answer soon
I can see why you are finding it hard to take in but I think I can understand why the experts have made this decision. At the grand age of 86, surgery is not always a good idea no matter how healthy your Dad may be. Chemotherapy if offered can cause some very debilitating side effects including nausea and aches and pain. (Many ladies in my group in their late 70's have declined chemotherapy as they decided the side effects of possibly months of treatment wouldn't be beneficial to their wellbeing.)
I see that you're also a member of the carer's only forum so it might be a good idea to ask the same question there.
Your Dad is still focussed on living as long as he can so take this time to enjoy things with him and create the happy memories that will last forever.
Sending hugs, B xx

Hiya,
Unfortunately I don’t have any advice but I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. My mom is 64 and has been recently diagnosed and the options for treatment are looking slim. She has copd and isnt in the best of health aside the cancer so they have ruled out surgery and chemo. I am also struggling. I am just trying to spend as much time with my mom as possible and trying to keep her going, she is, so far, in good spirits but I am dreading the future and do not want to see her suffer.
