Hi all, I was diagnosed Feb, surgery April. I have been given the all clear. Back to work next week on restricted hours. so far so good. However, I am sure it is because of my cancer but everytime the news comes on, there is someone else suffering or has lost their battle with lung cancer. It really gets to me. It does make me feel very vulnerable and whether mine will come back. I know no one has a crystal ball and I am a positive person but it is scary stuff.
Cancer is just everywhere, it really appears to be out of control.
Hi realshannon, firstly many congratulations on the all clear.
I get what you mean. Sometimes I have to turn the telly over because there is another advert, or someone else has lost their life to this awful disease. I think years ago people didn't talk about it as much as we do now. I do think that knowledge is power, and early diagnoses is so very important, so I do think it is good that we are more open, but when it effects you it is just a reminder isn't it.
I also think that positive stories like yours are so very important. We need to hear the good stories as well as all the negative. Getting a cancer diagnoses is so very scary, but to hear that you now have the all clear is so uplifting to others, so thank you for sharing xx
thank you for your kind words and I really do hope I have helped someone else. I didnt actually have an early diagnosis, it had been picked up in 2016 and 2019 but there was no follow up as requested. I was very poorly in January this year and thats how it was eventually picked up but then very quickly dealt with. I didnt need chemo or radiotherapy which was amazing. I had an upper left lobectomy. Apart from the obvious pain and fatique etc following surgery, the remaining issue has been nerve pain in my rib cage, arm and hand on the same side. I was told this could happen. I am really hoping it will settle after time. There are things I still have problems doing, I cannot use that side for anything too weight bearing but I did my first house vaccum the other day! I cant say I didnt ache the next day but it felt good doing normal stuff. Happy to answer any questions etc that anyone may have - we are all so different but I do feel very lucky and am very much looking forward to Christmas and 2022!
