Hello everyone
i was diagnosed aged 57 with nsc adenocarcinoma of right lung in March 2021 and given prognosis of 4 months without treatment. My sister died a few weeks after my diagnosis and she was in the hospice unit . I didn’t share my diagnosis with her before she died.
The hardest part for me emotionally was telling my husband , my daughter and son.
I have a beautiful grand daughter who brings me immense joy , she will be 4 in January. I am lucky to have good friends and I’m a retired nurse
my oncologist offered me immunotherapy Keytruda and I’ve been having this every 6 weeks since then without any major side effects and with a good response. I’ve had to start thyroxine tablets as I’d been feeling very tired and cold in the summer. A few weeks of lethargy ensued but I was able to enjoy the garden outside wrapped in blankets .
I don’t sleep very well and am troubled with right shoulder pain and the paracetamol isn’t helping much . I’ve also been using Brufen gel and deep heat at night.
treatment number 6 is next Friday , if my blood tests are ok
I feel I’m at a good level presently and have been able to walk further than I have for a while , although not my previous 10k steps but hey ho , onwards and upwards !
ive been reading the forum and I’m heartened to see so much support within it so Thankyou
Hi altho I have a different cancer to you,i wanted to ' bump'your post up ,in the hopes someone from this group will reply to you. Like you, I also take thyroxine as my meds affect levels n low thyroxine also runs in my family. What a pain it is, feeling tired most of the time!

Hello, sorry to hear your story but it really does sound like your treatment is positive. I havent heard of that treatment so it is interesting to hear. I have always taken thyroxine, not because of the cancer. It can take ages to reach your optimum level, fairly sure (when I was first diagnosed in the 1990s) they increase it after blood tests every 3 months. It does really help although I generally still am a cold person, you will find that part will get better. re sleep, I find putting lavender oil on my feet and temples really helps. wear bed socks too. Also, I love my TENS machine, you should be able to try one via NHS physio (used to be able to) and then if you like it, can buy at a good rate. I have had mine for a very long time. take care x
Hello Mama Jools,
I have a virtually identical diagnosis and treatment, and also suffered badly from shoulder pain and extreme fatigue (although it might not be cancer related, as I also have some injuries). Since I had to discontinue ibuprofen and paracetamol didn’t help, I was quite desperate, so have started acupuncture. I was told that I shouldn’t expect any improvements until after 4-5 sessions, but miraculously it removed almost all pain after one session, and my energy levels are almost back to normal. It ain’t cheap, but I will continue this, as being “myself” again after 6 months of pain and fatigue is worth it. I have little faith in alternative medicines as a whole, but thought I’d at least mention it as an option to try.
Thankyou for your kindness I really appreciate it
I’m doing ok at the moment and praying it lasts
I hope you are ok too
best wishes
Hi Tara
thankyou for keeping me upbeat and sorry for delay in responding
I’m still having treatment and doing ok , I’m feeling positive and continue to fight the fight
best r3gards to you too
Thankyou for your advice and reassurance it really is helpful
I am considering a TENS machine and will discuss with my physiotherapist in the next few weeks when I have appointment
I’m hoping you are ok too ?
Thankyou for getting in touch and I’m so pleased to hear about your improved quality of life , that is brilliant
I have been diagnosed with adhesive capsulitis , frozen shoulder , via physiotherapist
I saw my GP first who arranged this as well as X-ray and concluded it was just rotten luck and not cancer related , so I was pleased about this although the pain is bad although GP prescribed meloxicam which I take as well as paracetamol
I will consider all options including TENS machine and acupuncture to help with this , I’ve had a frozen shoulder before and ended up with a successful manipulation under anaesthetic
I hope the improvement continues for you
we will fight the fight , day by day
