My mum is 62 and fit and well. She had a seizure out the blue 12 days ago, at 1st they thought was a stroke and was signs of an old stroke, after tests they found a lump on her lung. She was let home last week with medication (dexamathasone and anti seizure) all the doctor said to her when she left was lung cancer. She knows she has 2 brain lesions though. She called Friday after hearing nothing since being out and they said another hospital was looking at head scans Friday (just gone) and the lung scans would be this week. She's not even had a biopsy. We are all so confused and worried. She's still fine, pottering around at home just waiting in limbo. Please if anyone has any advice or ever been on the same situation would be appreciated.
Hi Jhoops I am sorry to hear about your mum. It is terrifying when you are told a loved one has cancer. It is usual to have ct scans before a biopsy, you will probably find that once the tests start there will be lots of different appointments.
There are a few people here in the lung group who are supporting loved ones, but there are also a couple of support groups on the community you can join, where there are others in a similar situation to yourself.
You can also call the Macmillan support line, 7 days a week from 8am until 8pm on 0808 808 00 00
Let us know how your mum gets on.
Take care
Wow they are and I'm glad you're feeling OK at the minute. She is absolutely fine, steroids are making her a bit restless but hopefully they're doing there job. She had a call to see the lung consultant next Tuesday but biopsy letter to say the 30th, they are trying to push that forward. Its now over 2 weeks and we are none the wiser.
Yes, I'm finding the steroids a bit hard to cope with too.
Your Mum and I seem to be living parallel lives.
I wish I had a gem of wisdom to impart but unfortunately not.
Best wishes to your Mum. My daughter is very worried for me too but the last thing I want is for her life to be overshadowed by mine.
My mum is very positive and said I need to be too but it is hard for us daughters as like you say you're fit and well otherwise, if my mum didn't have a seizure we still would never know. Keep me updated on how you're doing. Hoping my mum will know more Tuesday.
Will do. I hope you get some answers.
My big appointment is Wednesday.
Wishing you all the best.
