3 days into this after being told I have lung cancer. Still trying to wrap my head around it . Went for a routine chest x-ray for RA med change then a CT to being told .
Hi Alfagullietta welcome to the group, but sorry you find yourself here. That must of been a shock for you finding out the way you did. You are at the very beginning of your journey, so things will seem up in the air to you at the moment, and you probably feel in limbo, knowing you have this disease but not knowing what you can do about it. Once you have a treatment plan, things will settle down, and you will start to come to terms with the situation.
There are many people in this group who have been living with lung cancer for some time, and are in a stable situation. There are so many different treatments for lung cancer now, especially if it is caught early, and it sounds like yours was if you did not have any warning signs. Sometimes these routine x-rays are a blessing in disguise, even though it may not feel that way at the moment.
Talking to people who are in a similar situation to yourself really does help, so you have come to the right place. We are here whenever you want to ask any questions, or even have a rant about how you are feeling. We have all been there, and believe me it does help just to post your thoughts. You can also get one to one support through the Macmillan support line by calling 0808 808 00 00 they are available 7 days a week from 8am until 8pm.
Take care
Hi its hard when you are told you have the C word, it's also hard waiting to see what treatment you are going to have. Have you seen the oncologist yet because that is when you can ask all your questions, I would suggest writing them down when you think of them and then at least they are on paper and you won't forget. Take someone with you if you haven't seen the oncologist as they tend to remember what has been said. I have combined lung cancer NSCLC and SCLC, I can't have any operations to remove the mass as it is the SCLC which is the aggressive one and can spread through the body very quickly.
Once you know the type of cancer you have then you will feel a lot better as you will know the treatments available to you. I will keep fingers and toes crossed for. Hugs coming your way and keep smiling and try and stay positive as that always helps. Just remember you have it there's nothing you can do about it but the treatments are advanced. Jean
Hello Alfagulliette I was in the same position 7 weeks ago. I was told I had grade 4 lung cancer and I couldn't get my head round it, but things moved very quickly. They operated on me but cancer was to advanced. I'm now on a tablet to target the cancer. Fingers crossed Easy to say but keep positive it helps
Well had my biopsy yesterday. Next another scan . Still struggle with it but at least something is being done as I don't feel in limbo . Trying to stay positive.
I have my fiancé who is my rock and supportive bond belief. hopefully the scan appointment will come through soon .
Thats good that you have your fiance as your rock you need someone to be strong for you to help you get through this horrible decease. There is hope with treatment, stay positive as it will help.
Sorry I missed your original post and glad things are moving forward for you now
sylvia
Hi glad to hear things are moving quicker for you now and glad you have that support behind you as everyone needs it.
Just to lift your spirit a little I finished my radiation in May, had my scan and on Tuesday was told the mass has shrunk but the oncologist didn't have the full report. So just remember that there is light at the end of the tunnel even if it's a little bit.
Keep your chin up and smile because that's all we can do. Thinking of you and good luck Jean xx
Well we are sitting in the car waiting for my PET scan . Final one before meeting the consultant .
Good luck, one step closer to the treatment plan x
It's normally very quick to see the oncologist team and they are all nice, then you will be able to move on when you know your diagnosis and what treatment you will be offered. All the best for whatever news you get just think positive love Jean xx
