Hi,

I have joined this group for any advice on support/help with treatment and home help for my 74yr old father. He has just been diagnosed with Lung cancer with secondary liver cancer, to top things off he was also diagnosed with Prostate cancer in 2019.

He will be having is biopsy later on this week, so no doubt you can all appreciate how worrying the waiting is.

He has been placed on oxygen 24hrs a day but his is limited on what he can do without becoming breathless.

Any help and advice on what care he maybe able to apply for would be appreciated.

thanks in advance

Pete

  • Hi Pete, welcome to the group but so sorry to hear about your Dad. It really sounds like he is going through it at the moment.  It must be so difficult for him being on oxygen 24 hours a day.

Having a biopsy and waiting for results is stressful. The results can take a couple of weeks to come back from a biopsy, so there will be some waiting I’m sorry to say,

Can I suggest you call the Macmillan support line on 0808 808 00 00. It is a free call number and they are available 7 days a week from 8am until 8pm.  Someone there will be able to advise you on what care is available.

    Take care

    Chellesimo,

    Thank you for your reply.
I will give them a call in the coming days. Since my post my father has made a decision to refuse any treatment. He has been told that his Cancer is incurable. We’re waiting for the results of he biopsy.
It was hard to hear him say that he doesn’t want to suffer the side effects of chemotherapy.
I have to respect his wishes and prepare for what will come.
Will the help line provide information on palliative care or help on how to prepare?

    Thank you
