Hi I'm new to the group, my mum is 84 and has been diagnosed with stage 4 lunge cancer. Up until now she has had no symptoms now she has difficulty swallowing and a very hoarse voice. Think things are now taking effect.
Feeling a bit selfish as Im starting to get a bit scared as I don't know what is ahead for her.
Thanks for reading
Hi KazDee, I understand completely how you feel. Mum mum has ?? Stage 3 B lung cancer ( I forgot to ask .. ) and she’s 80. It’s terrifying. She just got diagnosed in April. Mum was same , no symptoms except for a sore chest and arm - but we put it down to previous surgery for breast cancer ……. And with covid , mum didn’t wasn’t to push it. Mum just finished radiotherapy 2 weeks ago and is feeling pretty rotten. We have just discovered she is anaemic. Apparently radiotherapy can cause this. Fingers crossed she will get her strength back up with her iron tablets . I see a huge change in her and it’s heartbreaking. .
I think you just need to take one step at a time. Also if you feel something is not tight , try snd find someone you trust to ask ( Gp or specialise nurse ) I’m trying to make sure mum is eating snd drinking enough because being a bit older you want them to be in the best physical shape . Take care, thinking of you,
Fi x
Hi KazDee welcome to the group, but sorry to hear of your mums diagnoses.
It is scary watching a loved one go through this. Has a doctor seen her about the difficulty with swallowing?
All you can do is be there for your mum. The last week I had with my mum will stay with me forever. We knew how ill she was and she didn’t have long left, but we spoke about such personal things that we never had said to each other before.
I know how hard this is going to be for you, I hope you have someone there to help support you. The Macmillan support line is available 7 days a week from 8am til 8pm if you need to talk to anyone. It’s a free call number on 0808 808 00 00
Take care

Thank you so much for your support.
She is eating soft foods and drinking so that's something.
You are so right one step at a time.
Hope your mum is ok
Take care x
