New to all this, my husband aged 62 as been diagnosed with lung cancer, in the last month its been none stop with tests and hospital visits. The cancer is in his right lung, we have been told they cannot operate so its treatment only with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. We are hoping after a visit to oncologist next week the treatment can start. Its been horrible  month seeing someone you love in so much pain but thanks to a Macmillan nurse it is now manageable. My emotions are all over the place, often tearful at times trying to deal with all this. Thank you for letting me join the group.

I'm so sorry to hear of your husbands diagnosis - your tears are understandable and expected. I don't think anyone who contributes on this website is any different and I certainly in the early days felt emotionally drained and in a dark place. Train spotter mentions some positive stories and often those people have shared them through the profile accessed through the icon to the left of your name ( default is a Macmillan coffee mug).

The treatment plan is dependent on the type and subtypes of cancer.

I was diagnosed with Non Small Cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in 2016 aged 53, incurable and inoperable and I've been on treatment for most of the past 5 years. I am still living well and enjoying life being fortunate to have none of the expected lung cancer symptoms - but over the years have had numerous side effects some bother others manageable with medication, others are now just part of my new normal. My husband and I have had some great holidays in fives years and but for the pandemic would have enjoyed more travels both in the UK and Europe.

You will find a wealth of experience on the site from those who have had different treatments and someone will (im sure) be able to offer support on specific questions/concerns . I understand the friends and family group is also very helpful.

My thoughts are with you both,
