Hello. My partner was diagnosed yesterday with stage 4. He’s currently battling pneumonia in hospital and was fighting fit until a month ago. I’m totally shell shocked and a mess. We have only been together a year, at 58 he is my soulmate and it all seems so unfair. We’ve been told it’s a case of months rather than years and I just don’t know where to turn or do. Evidently we have to wait until he recovers from the pneumonia before we can start any treatment but at the moment he doesn’t seem to be improving and is so much pain. Could really do with a friend right now xx

  • Hi Shelbysharpei welcome to the group, but so sorry to hear about your partner.  Finding out that a loved one has cancer is extremely stressful. It sounds like it came as a complete shock to you both.

I am sorry he is currently unwell with pneumonia. Are you able to visit him, I know some hospitals have different visiting rules because of Covid.  Pneumonia is very painful. Hopefully the antibiotics will start to work soon, and he will start to feel a little better.

Getting a cancer diagnoses really knocks you off your feet, and you have such a lot going on with your partner having pneumonia. I would concentrate on getting him out of hospital, then you can think about the next step. There are many of us here who have out lived our prognosis. Until you know what treatment he will be offered, you are going to be feeling in limbo.

Once you know what treatment he is going to be on, there will be people who can offer support and advice. There are also support groups on the community for people who are caring for loved ones,

    Family and friends

    Carers only

supporting someone with incurable cancer group

are all very supportive groups with people who are going through a similar situation to yourself.

Wishing you both the very best x
