Hi all,

I'm new to the group so abit nervous. I got diagnosed with stage 3 incurable lung cancer in February and just wanted to say hi and chat to people in same situation

  • Hi Bruce75, welcome to the group, but so sorry you find yourself here. Please do not feel nervous, this is a very warm group. Everyone here either has lung cancer themselves, or are supporting someone with lung cancer. The best thing about this group? Everyone here knows what you have been through to get to this point. We've all been there, having all the tests and scans, and the long wait for the results.

There are a few of us here who are in the incurable bracket like yourself.  If you click on our username or picture, it will take you to our profiles, where you can read our own personal journey so far.

I am sure others will be along shortly to welcome you here as well.

    All the best

Hi, I'm also in my 40s and recently diagnosed as incurable. On osimertinib which is going well so far and I'm still working and trying to keep life as normal as possible! There are plenty of encouraging stories out there of people living with cancer for years so although the incurable label came as a shock i'm getting to grips with it I think. Welcome to the group! x

Thank you for the reply. I'm having chemo and immuno management at the moment. Everything is still so new to me, I'm trying to get my head around everything. I'm still in shock by it all but it's nice to be able to chat with other people who know what you are going through x

  • Hi Bruce75 when you get a diagnoses and treatment starts very quickly, you almost feel like you are in a whirlwind and your feet haven't quite landed back safely on the ground. When I was first diagnosed, I felt completely knocked off my feet. There are still days when I feel off balance, but most of the time I am ok. It is kind of finding the acceptance of what has happened, and how different your life now is. I had to mourn the old me, before I could accept the new me.

Acceptance can take time. You are still only in the early days, but you will find your balance. Talking to people here will help. No one understands what you are going through more than us.

    xx

    Hiya

I'm ok. Enjoying chatting with people like me who are going through this journey.

Treatment is a battle as I suffered quite a few side effects but they are worth it .

Hope your mum is doing ok and fingers crossed treatment is good x

  • I just read your pro file . My mum has suffered awful shoulder pain, the doctors just kept saying it was where she was getting older and body changing and arthritis,

Just before Christmas I noticed she was looking a bit thinner my mum only about 8.5 stone any way so small person,  kept asking is she ok she said she was fine , she been looking after my 5 year old all the time,

Then after her covid jab in January she looked so rough she looked yellow, I kept saying mum u ok, said to my sister I think mum’s ilL and to my mums partner, and my mum finally went to the doctors end of March sent her for blood tests , scans and all the rest,  but she never had the typical LC symptoms and to this day no cough or any of tht stuff,

I just hope pray that my mum will be ok

    with the treatment, xxx

She is 66 strong and healthy, I’m just worried tht she has gone to 7.5 stone,  and the treatment is going to be awful on her small body,

thank u for sharing your journey xxx
