Hello

My name is Dee and I'm new to the group

I was diagnosed with cancer (left lung lower lobe) 6 weeks ago and having surgery on 3rd of June to have it removed. As the date is getting closer I am feeling very anxious and cannot eat or  sleep properly. I keep telling myself I'll be fine but it doesn't help. I'm just not sure how to deal with the situation I hope someone can help me.

Thank you

  • I had lung surgery in 2014, not a lobectomy but my right lung was removed completely. I was petrified and felt just like you do now, I had never been in hospital before but found that the operation and recovery process was nothing like as bad as I expected. I had surgery on Tuesday and was home on Sunday, many are home even sooner.

My best advice is to follow guidance when you're discharged concerning exercise etc. which is important to ensure the quickest and most effective recovery.

You have a great outlook following surgery and I hope all goes well for you. Anything else specific you'd like to know just ask.

All the best, I know it's not easy but try not to worry too much - you'll be just fine.

    Derek.

  • Hi Dee, and welcome to the group, but sorry you find yourself here. It is only natural to feel anxious about the upcoming operation. Have you spoken to your GP about your anxiety?

As well as talking to others here, who have been through a similar situation to yourself, there is also the Macmillan support line. They are available 7 days a week from 8am until 8pm on 0808 808 00 00.

Wishing you all the best, it will be over before you know it.

Hello, I had a left upper lobectomy last year. It wasn't too bad and I definitely felt better than I expected afterwards. It's natural to be worried about it. If you've got any specific questions or concerns then ask and I'll try to help or I'm sure someone else will. Good luck! x

  • Thank you Derek for your reassuring words.

  • Thank you for your support.

  • Thank you for the information.
