Hello, I am new to the group. Hoping to gain some more knowledge and speak to people with similar situations.
My dad has been diagnosed with non small cell lung cancer; tumour in the right lung that has spread to the lymph nodes and has spots in the right lung also. They are offering him gemcarbo chemo but have said it is incurable.
He is well in himself, we only knew he had this because his voice was bad and they found a tumour in his larynx which has been treated with radio and he is doing well from that. They were 2 separate primary cancers. He was border line to be offered treatment however as he coped so well with the radio and is well in himself they have decided to go ahead.
They haven't given us any time frames at all, only that chemo will give him a further 4 to 6 months.
Does anyone have any similar stories?
How did family members manage with treatment? Any miracles?
Best wishes to you all, kim
Hi Kim and welcome to the group, but sorry to hear about your Dad. My journey is slightly different to your Dads as I have a different type of cancer in my lungs. It’s good to hear they have offered him treatment, I hope that goes well for him.
Hopefully someone who has non small lung cancer will be along soon to share their story with you.
Take care

Hi! Mskturner1982, I have been diagnosed with the same cancer. Had a phone call 2days ago to go for MRI and assessment next day, I had not heard from the hospital since Xmas. There for 5 hours then told they thought the cancer may have gone into my spine, but it had not. I do not get treatment but get pallative care from Hospice..I forgot to say I did not know about this appointment untill the caller said they were trying to arrange transport, which I did not need. The cancer had not spread to my spine that is good news but more communication between hospital and patient is required I think. I am ranting on Msk, My good wishes and prayers go to you and your dad. I have a copy of Harry Lauder song "Keep right on to the end of the road" pinned beside my computer (amongst others) the words are very pertinent
Sorry to hear about this, seems very disorganised and unfair to u. I hope you are okay and if u need to talk please just message. I will look up the song u have suggested. So do u have the cancer in your lungs and lymph nodes to?
I really hope they give u the best care possible, love and prayers coming your way xx
Hi kitty, I'm glad they are treating you. Are they giving u gemcarbo chemo? My dad's gota have a Central line. How are u feeling?
My dad is 70 and is not as fit as he could be. He is older for his years as he had 2 brain aneurysms 27 years ago and seizures for 15 years after on and off. It was a shock because he is more well now than he has been in years. And he's put on weight and quit smoking as soon as he found out about his 1st cancer so virtually so in his 6 month now.
It's all been very quick then for you. Sending love and prayers to u.
Thanks Kim x
Sorry to hear about your Dad. Positively from your post you say a further 4-6 months, the word further can be so vague but doctors dont like to commit. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer in 2016. From reading people's experiences, the one thing I have seen is that every body (and mind) responds differently to the disease, to the treatment and to the inevitable side effects. You say your Dad is well in himself and is having further treatment, another positive, And the sun is shining as I type! Make good memories, enjoy life - none of us know what's around the corner.
Hi Kim
I was diagnosed with nsclc in may 2018 it had spread to my lymph nodes. I have several tumours one close to my heart. I'm not curable but I'm doing ok. I had 2 years immunotherapy, and now I'm on monitoring. Stay positive I hope all goes well
Sharon
That is really good that they offered you immunotherapy, sadly they won't offer this to my dad. If the chemo works well I am really going to try and push them for it as I believe it is a better treatment. Is yours a stage 3 or 4 if you don't mind me asking.
So glad you are doing well, that's fabulous news. All my best wishes to you. Thank you for reaching out x
