Hello.

I’m very new to this and was wondering if anyone could give me and guidance. Not used to sharing things but I could really do with the support.

my nan was diagnosed with cancer in the spine at the beginning of the year.

since being diagnosed they have found that the primary cancer is her lung. They’ve said that it’s non small cell lung cancer and it’s also spread to her liver. They have said that this is terminal and is at stage 4b

she’s had an operation on her back and removed what cancer they could see on her spine.

she starts radiotherapy on Monday to try and help the pain she’s in. She’s also being sick, very sleepy, not much motivation at all, can be confused at times. Do you think that they will still go ahead with the radiotherapy?

I would like to know what steps I need to look out for as I want to give her the best quality of life and look after her in the correct way. So if anyone could help me, I’d really appreciate it.

  • Hi Duderz1 and welcome to the online community, but sorry to hear about your Nan. It sounds like she has been through so much already with her spine op. I wonder what pain medication she is presently on, and whether that is what is making her sick and sleepy.

I can't answer whether or not her radiation will go ahead. It is obviously important for pain relief that she has this, so they won't cancel it lightly, only if they really need too.

Your nan is very lucky to have such a caring, suportive grandchild. I know you want to help your nan as much as possible, and I wonder if you might want to join the supporting-someone-with-incurable-cancer-forum where there are other people going through a similar situation to yourself.

I hope your nan gets her treatment on Monday, and she has some brighter days.

    Take care
