Hi everyone im new to this and just wanted to introduce myself. so everything happened so quickly it feels like a dream somtimes!!!

I felt unwell for a few months and just put it down to stress (like you do). Eventually went to my GP on the 31.12.20 as i was experiencing swelling on my neck and chest and i had a few burst blood vessels on my chest, she sent me straight to the hospital just be sure. l had an x-ray that wednesday afternoon which revieled i had a clouding on my chest. As i was not in any pain they sent me home to wait for an outpatient ct scan. By the sunday of that week i was really swollen and could not breath so i went back to hospital alone. Because of the swelling they did my ct scan that afternoon. I thought maybe i had covid or a chest infection. By six o,clock that evening they broke the devastating news that i had a mass on my right lung and they we 95% sure it was cancer!!!! What a true saying how your life can change in a second. They kept me in hospital for a week and i had a biopsy, 2 more ct scans a PET scan and one round of chemo by the following sunday. I have since had another round of chemo and i feel okay. Next week i find out if iam having radiotheraphy now or waiting till my chemo has finished. I am a fifty year old woman in two weeks time and my cancer is at stage three.

Hi. I had the same as you.  I experienced swelling of my face, every morning for 3 weeks I woke up With severe swelling.   I went to the Drs a lot of times and each time they didn’t know what was causing it.  Finally I saw another Doctor who sent me for an emergency CT scan as my chest also had burst blood vessels.  My scan showed cancer on my lung and I was told I have small cell lung cancer.  I was diagnosed on Xmas eve, not the greatest day to be told.  I had a stent fitted the same day and this relieved the swelling.  I started chemo on 2nd January which I had for 3 days (9 hours in total).  I have now had 3 more sessions with another 6 more to go.  I am due to have a scan to see if the chemo is working which I really hope it is.

  • Hi, wow that really is quite similar!! they considered me for a stent but tried the chemo and steroids first and they done the trick. Im so sorry you found out christmas eve, but so glad you found out, thats more important!! Your chemo sounds quite intense so fingers crossed for you its working. I hope your not feeling to ill from your chemo and your results are positive.

  • Hi CraftyNicky, and a very warm welcome to the group.  You have been through so much in such a short time. Talk about being thrown into the deep end. Hope things are settling a little now. Let us know what they decide about the radiotherapy.

    Take care
