28m smoked 3-4 cigs a day on and off for 5 years but some months I would quit completely went to go 5 months ago doc said I had mild finger clubbing asked if it was like this or became like this honestly I have no idea maybe it became blood oxygen was 98 percent lungs were clear air throughout no history of cancers did blood work it all came out fine chest x ray came out fine ECG was fine doc did not send me for CT scan which i wanted because I hear that chest x rays do miss alot of cancers doc did send me for an EKG because of my history of anabolic steroids but says ECG was fine now I'm scared i could have lung cancer have really bad anxiety and been getting chest pains now mild but all day what are the chances especially because nail clubbing is linked to lung cancer why didint they sent me for a CT?
If you are concerned then as far as I know you are entitled to ask your gp for a second opinion. Also let them know you are suffering from anxiety and this is adding to your anxiety.
Good luck
I have the GP appointment the only reason I am concerned is because clubbing is associated with lc i domt have any pains or anything I'm just worried a chest x ray won't detect early stages what are the chances they said x ray was good and said i shouldn't worry about lc but i think a ct will put my mind at rest
Your results do seem very positive. However it doesn't hurt to ask your gp if you could be sent for a CT scan however there are other conditions that can cause clubbing of the fingers including thyroid problems, ulcerative colitis, crohn's disease etc etc. Try not to worry too much but keep discussing your concerns with your gp.
Ok thank you I will ask so do you think the chances are very low considering the clear X ray ECG n bloods plus my age? Anxiety is so bad I have literally diagnosed myself with lc and it's in my head that i have lc
I'm not a doctor but in my opinion it seems highly unlikely that you have lung cancer. I know anxiety can effect people massively but try and take comfort in that your gp is listening to your concerns. Keep talking to him about how you are feeling when you see him. Express all your thoughts and fears to the gp then he/she may be able to alleviate your concerns surrounding any lung cancer fears that you have. Maybe consider asking for some counselling which might help with your anxiety too. It's not for everyone but give it a go. It does help. Look after your self.
Thanks for the reply yellow tree sorry for late reply thanks for the reassurance I had a GP appointment according to her she doesn't think it's true clubbing and insisted it wasn't however it does seem like it she then proceeded to tell me that if it was a tumor causing the clubbing it would of definitely been caught on an x ray she seems extremely confident that I don't have lc however I still proceeded to ask to for a CT she referred me to a lung specialist and said they will determine wether you need one or not they might not even give you one I'm more assured now but I still have doubts and convinced I have lc thats not being caught on x ray
X ray showed normal lung function and normal c walls with edge no effusion noted
Hi hope this might reassure you abit more I have lung cancer accidentally found after suffering with a chest xray a noble was seen on ex Ray no clubbing on nails at all I was a smoker but lung cancer was the last thing I thought off so the hospital sent me for ct scan where 3 white spots was found followed by biopsy confirmed lung cancer inoperable but livable on medication its not a death sentence anymore each day they are learning more I hope when my grandsons come old enough to have their own family cancer will be something of the past please stay strong stay of goodle my first mistake when I got told had cancer I was a wreck but got told the website is about 4 years out of date listern to the doctors they know best let us all know how you get along ii will be thinking of you
So sorry to hear that hope you stay well and strong! How big was the mass found on your X ray I just don't get how my GP seems to confident in saying I don't have lc when a CT has not been done she then goes to state that a tumor that is capable of causing clubbing would be larger and caught on x ray but then alot of health websites say it's an early symptom she also stated that all the lc patients who she's seen did have no clubbing at all said I have nothing to worry about I'm still not convinced and feel like a CT would put my mind to rest
