Hi all,

Granddad has his scan tomorrow (radiotherapy finished 1st May) but then appointment with consultant isn't until 12th Sept - 6 week wait!

Is this normal? I didn't think we'd have to wait 6 weeks to find out if it's worked or not, it seems such a long time, and others seem to only wait 1/2 weeks

  • Hi   it is not that unusual. I normally wait 4-6 weeks for my scan results. It depends on so many factors, which hospital, whether the consultant appointment was booked before the scan was booked in, how busy the consultant is, whether he has a holiday etc etc.

Sorry, I know how hard the waiting can be. You could contact the lung nurse, see if there is anyway the appointment can be brought forward x

  • Hi

Sorry to hear your granddad has to wait so long for his results, maybe the recent strike has slowed things down a bit. I know outpatient clinic appointments for follow ups have been cancelled in a lot of departments, and, as your granddad's appointment is for results only, this will be classed as a non-emergency.  Maybe he could just get a telephone appointment rather than a face to face, this might speed things up a bit.

    Best wishes.

  • I had a scan 3 months ago and a mri scan they tjought there was a tumor in my liver but they had a look and couldnt find it so are rescanning me im sept sometime, as the saying goes no news is good news and yes IF they found anything they would let you know , but its still worth ringing the nurse xxxxx

  • Thanks everyone - he says what's 6 weeks when you've been at this 7 months! Feel reassured that they would be in touch sooner if anything came up that needed attention, so if we wait the full 6 weeks I'll take that as a positive x

  • I think that is the right way to look at it, I agree, they will be in touch sooner if it was serious. X
